DERMAL FILLERS
BEFORE YOUR TREATMENT
-
Schedule your facial filler appointment at least four weeks prior to a special event that you may be attending, such as a wedding or a vacation. Bruising and swelling may be apparent for up to two weeks after your treatment and you may require refinement after the original treatment.
-
Avoid alcohol for at least 24 hours prior to treatment, as it can thin the blood and increase the risk of bruising.
-
Avoid anti-inflammatory/blood-thinning medications, if possible, for a period of two weeks before treatment. Medications and supplements such as aspirin, Vitamin E, Ginkgo Biloba, Ginseng, St. John’s Wort, Omega 3/Fish Oil supplements, Ibuprofen, Motrin, Advil, Aleve, and other NSAIDS thin the blood and can increase the risk of bruising and swelling after injections.
-
Discontinue Retin-A use two days before and two days after treatment
-
If you do not feel well, have a rash, cold sore, or blemish in the treatment area, please reschedule at least 24 hours in advance.
DAY OF TREATMENT
-
If you have previously suffered from facial cold sores, there is a risk that the needle punctures could contribute to another outbreak of cold sores. Please let us know so you can be prescribed antiviral medication prior to treatment.
-
Please ensure to eat and drink prior to appointment to decrease chances of lightheadedness during treatment.
-
Please arrive at the office with a clean face. NO makeup, tinted moisturizer, sunscreen, etc. which may interfere with the procedure.
-
You may not receive treatment if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
POST TREATMENT
-
Once you have received a facial filler treatment, the results will be apparent immediately and will last from several months to several years depending on the filler used, treatment area, and your individual biology. Due to the presence of lidocaine anesthetic in the gel formula, you may feel numbness or tingling immediately after the procedure. This will resolve within the hour.
-
Bruising may be visible initially, and then become more obvious the next day. It will fade over the next 7 to 14 days.
-
You may experience significant swelling after injections, especially if your lips were treated. Applying clean, cool compresses to the treatment area helps to reduce swelling.
-
Do not apply make-up over injection points for 24 hours after the procedure. If you need to hydrate your lips, simply apply Aquaphor with a clean Q-Tip.
-
Mild, non-painful swelling may last for up to two weeks.
-
Some people may experience a dull ache and/or tenderness in the treated areas. This will subside in 48-72 hours.
-
In the rare case of an adverse event, an antidote can be administered to partially or fully reverse the effects of treatment.
